About this item
This is an exceptional medieval vesica-shaped seal, dating to the late 13th - early 14th century AD. The seal is deeply cut and engraved with a standing figure of a lady wearing a full gown, wimple, and headdress. The seal is named with the owner in Lombaric script, reading as "S.Iehane.Dame.De.Villers.le.Morehier" for the seal of Jehane Lady De Villers le Morehier. This would relate to the Morehier family. On this seal we see the Lady standing and feeding a puppy (held in her cusped hand). This is a rather unusual subject, but rather charming. This seal is intact and in excellent excavated condition, a true investment piece!
