This is seal was designed to be used with hot wax for sealing letters.
I have made an impression of this seal using hot wax to show that the seal works as intended and also to give a clearer image of the intaglio.
The wax impression comes in a small plastic case and is included with the seal.
This is a gilt metal seal which has a rectangular base set with a foil backed purple stone.
The stone is engraved with a curious intaglio of a cherub standing between two thorny roses. He looks like he is holding a knife to cut one down. Above this is the following word, in reverse, “Beware”
The seal has carved base and carved strut handle and is topped with a suspension loop.
The seal measures 23mm x 13mm x 11mm and is in 90% mint condition – some light loss of gilding
