Gold plated watch strap and fob with patent clasp c1890

These pieces were designed to replicate the earlier Georgian watch chains, where the watch sat in the pocket of the trousers and a gold strap would hang from it. This gilt metal chain follows the same idea but has a patent clasp to attach it to a belt loop. The strap also has a length of chain and dog clip and will attach to a pocket watch. The mesh strap has a faux buckle and hanging from this is an oval gold plated fob set with a green hard stone engraved with an intaglio. The strap measures 110mm x 38mm and is in 90% mint condition – tarnish on the buckle.
