    About this item

This is a medieval counter seal, dating to the 15th century. It would have once belonged to a knight, bearing a great helm surmounted with an elaborate crest.  The border is decorated with a garland of roses. Such a seal would have been used in conjunction with an armorial seal, used to seal the back of the wax as an added authentication.
