    About this item

This is seal was designed to be used with hot wax for sealing letters.

I have made an impression of this seal using hot wax to show that the seal works as intended and also to give a clearer image of the intaglio.

The wax impression comes in a small plastic case and is included with the seal.

This is a small solid 15K gold seal which has a solid gold handle and gold on metal base. It does not have any assay marks. It has been tested and is sold as solid gold with a 100% refund guarantee.

This piece was made in between the French revolutionary wars and the later Napoleonic wars.

Young British men were encouraged to go to Europe on a grand tour and often came back with souvenirs which took the form of ancient works of art.

This seal has a stone from Ancient Roman times but was cased and made into a seal in the 1800s. It has a red cornelian stone engraved with an intaglio of the god Foruna. She is portrayed with a mural crown and with her two attributes; a cornucopia in one hand and a gubernaculum, a rudder, in the other, which the Goddess would have used to steer to control the changeable tides and currents of life.

The seal has a fine gold strut handle with a suspension loop.

The seal measures 13mm x 10mm x 7mm and is in 90% mint condition – some minor wear to the gold on the base
