About this item
AESTHETIC ERA BLACK TRANSFERWARE POT LID
SAPONACEOUS ROSE TOOTH CREAM
London ~ 19th Century England
This rare early version rectangular Victorian 2 5/8 “ long x 1 5/8 " wide x 1 1/8 " tall covered ceramic earthenware container was made during Victorian times as a tooth cleaner and for freshening the breath. Dental hygiene was poor and a few chemists realized the importance of brushing one's teeth. A very attractive pot with black transfer.
The piece is in great condition. A small chip to the inside of the lid. A lovely vanity item with real history. The piece will make a great addition to any collection of transfer printed advertising wares or quack medicines, and would make a fabulous gift for the dentist in your life!
