About this item
A pair of Art Deco hand enamelled "sling" shape cocktail glasses
Decorated with huntsmen in "pink" tailcoats and tophats,
Stuart & Sons Ltd, Stourbridge
English, Circa 1930
Measure: 17cm tall x 7cm diameter
Vintage 1930s glasses decorated with fox-hunting scenes in hand-painted enamels over a printed outline. Unsigned but by Stuart & Sons Ltd, Stourbridge .
This type of tall elegant highball glass with a stem and foot was developed during the 1920's and 30's to serve classic "sling" cocktails (such as the "Singapore Sling"). The "sling" is a family of cocktails, similar to punch, whose name derives from the German "schlingen" meaning (colloquially) "to wolf down". The height and volume of these types of tall glass made them the ideal vessels for serving "long" drinks, with ice.
Very good condition.
