Christofle Malmaison Large Silver Plated Serving Tray

A sensational extra large silver plated, twin handled serving tray by Christofle, Paris in the Malmaison pattern, Circa 1980. This enormous vintage Butler’s tray has a pretty Acanthus leaf pattern rim and handles with the famous Christofle mark to the centre of the tray (bottom) and also to both handles (reverse side). In excellent condition with only light patina to the silver plating, commensurate with age and use of a serving piece.

One of Christofle's most historic patterns, Malmaison exemplifies the Empire style, with its frieze of delicate palm and lotus leaves and symmetrical design. The name is a nod to the Chateau de la Malmaison, a favoured Parisian residence of Napoleon Bonaparte and Empress Josephine.
