About this item
A extra large 19th century silver plated rounded rectangular twin handled tray Armand Frenais, Paris, with attractive wear to the plate to show the copper base.
The pattern is the same ‘Crossed Ribbons’ design produced by Christofle, Paris. Historically in the 19th Century, Armand Frenais and Christofle were arch rivals and both were recognised as creators of some of the finest silverware in Paris, often producing the same design. Sadly, Armand Frenais lost the battle and his company closed in 1927. As a result little of his silverware remains, compared to Christofle, which makes his work more rare and collectable, (in my opinion!).
