About this item
A fine set of late 19th/early 20th Century French heavy hand blown Bistro glasses with matching silver plated Absinthe spoons (each spoon 16.5cm long)
These glasses were once used in bars and cafes all over France to serve the illicit bright green beverage beloved of artists and poets, Absinthe. Reputedly highly addictive, it quickly damaged the brain and many Bohemians succumbed either to madness ... or creative brilliance... under its influence.
These glasses are of fine quality and in superb condition with a heavy elegant base and matching vintage absinthe spoons which each held a lump of sugar. Water was poured over the sugar to dissolve it and dilute the green Absinthe which became milky white rather like 'pastis'.
