About this item
This is an antique marquetry elbow chair. A Dutch, beech and fruitwood carver, dating to the Georgian period, circa 1800.
Embodies the sinuous, inlaid splendour of late 18th century Dutch craftsmanship
Displaying a desirable aged patina and in good order
Fruitwood and Beech show fine grain interest
Rich ember hues present in the stocks and the later upholstered cushion
Arched top rail crowned with a scrolled back rest
Typical of this period, the vase splat decorated with inlaid foliate detail
Serpentine beech arms narrow at the rounded knuckle, with swept supports
Drop-in seat with quality velour upholstery, issuing a flowerhead pattern
Lower frame rail graced with a repeat of the inlaid marquetry for a highly decorative touch
Broad knees cascade into pleasingly thick cabriole legs, terminating into pad feet
Rear legs gently splayed, following the profile of the raked back rest
Each leg united front to back with a wave shape H-stretcher
