Painted Gansu Sideboard With Curio Paintings

Originating from Gansu, China, this substantial sideboard was originally designed for storing rice or grain. The fixed door panels have been modified for convenient access to the interior, while the formerly removable half boards at the top - previously the sole entry point - have now been permanently sealed.

Each door features original artwork set against sepia backgrounds, illustrating an array of flower vases, bronzes, and other curios. Known as 'bogu,' this design was prevalent in Gansu and other Chinese regions, symbolizing the owner's status and affluence. The cabinet’s robust black frames and top provide a striking contrast to the red and cream hues on the doors. Equipped with removable shelves and generous storage capacity, this piece offers both functional versatility and a distinctive visual appeal for any interior.
