Painted Northeast Elm Antique Sideboard

This distinctive sideboard from Dongbei, circa 1880, features painted tiles inset into the frames of the doors and lower apron. The beautiful paintings of flowers, birds, and butterflies represent symbols of long life, good luck, and prosperity in China. The soft tones of the surrounding poplar wood complement the vibrant colors on the white tiled surface. Originally used as an altar for offerings to ancestors, the sideboard has been converted for practical storage and would make a unique addition to any interior as a storage cabinet or dining room sideboard
