Superior quality antique mahogany sideboard Gillow & Co. of Lancaster and London having a mirrored back with carving to the top. The base has a splendid mahogany top with two short and one long drawer to the centre with original brass handles above a recess section flanked by two carved mahogany doors depicting sunflowers with unusual original brass hinges and a fitted interior with a wine cooler. It stands on short turned legs.
A superb Gillows and Co. example boasting the highest quality of design and craftsmanship. Gillows and Co. also known as Gillows of Lancaster and London was a byword for quality, and other designers used Gillows to manufacture their furniture. By the mid-18th century the firm was one of the leading cabinet-makers in Lancaster. They had a reputation for manufacturing very high quality furniture and pieces of Gillow furniture can now be seen in museums in London, Leeds, Adelaide, Melbourne, and Auckland, as well as a collection in the Gillow Museum in Lancaster.
