About this item
A fabulously unusual American Art Deco silver plated ‘Pinched’ cocktail shaker by The Meriden Silver Plate Co, Patented Jan 11 1927. In the style of an old-fashioned Dimple whiskey bottle, this triangular cocktail shaker has three concave sides and an unusual cork strainer and removable top stopper. In remarkably good condition for it’s age and use.
Designed deep in the Prohibition Era when the sale, purchase and drinking of alcohol was strictly prohibited, the fashion started for home cocktail pieces that looked like anything but a regular piece of cocktail kit…!
The Meriden Silver Plate Company had a long history, having been founded in 1860 and in constant production of silverware and hollowware until 1965. Famous for creating good quality American silverware, they made a line of bar ware for the decadent passenger ship, The Ile de France in 1929.
