George IV large silver table center piece, London 1825

A stunning George IV silver and hobnail cut glass table centre piece. Made probably by Samual Hennell of London in 1825, there are a full set of hallmarks on the base. The silver body depicts a full length female figure who is the goddess Ceres. Ceres was the Roman goddess of fertility and agriculture. She is seen here hold a laurel wreath and a basket of grapes on her head. The top of the base has bunches of grapes and vines while the base has profusely cast with roses and acanthus leaves. The base sits on three feet and can be unscrewed for cleaning. The silver is in excellent undamaged condition and the 200 year old original glass bowl has a split across it and e few nibbles around the edges .
