About this item
A rare George III Scottish silver snuff box made by Alexander Gairdener of Edinburgh c.1780. It bears the makers mark "AG" only. The inscription on top of the lid is "Friends of Mr Herman H. Leslie" and is quite rubbed. The box is in good condition with no damage or repairs only some slight wear to the engine turning in places. The interior has original gilding and inside the lid is the inscription "Presented by a few friends in acknowledgement of his skill as an Agriculturalist and his worth as a man". The 12 part hinge is tight and the lid closes crisply. A lovely box by a very rare maker.
