    About this item

A very rare (possibly one off) George IV silver gilt snuff box by William Simpson, Birmingham 1829. The lid has a cast depiction of a covey of partridges. Interestingly this design is a copy of a painting by Stephen Elmer (1717-1796) and a subsiquent etching by John Scott in 1801. The box is in excellent condition with only slight rubbing of the gilding on the high points. The twenty part hinge closes tightly and the lid fits perfectly with the botom. The interior is gilded with hallmarks on the top and bottom. This is a stunning box with a great cast top.
