About this item
A very rare Victorian silver and agate jewellery box with a large smokey quartz stone on top. Made in Edinburgh by McKay and Chisholm around 1890. They operated from premesis at 57 Princess Street in Edinburgh from 1889 to 1910. On four panels the box has beautifully cut agate stones set in flower designs. The interior is lined with green leather and the silver panels are elaborately engraved with gothic style swirls and geometric designs. The lid fits snuggly and has a lockable clasp at the side. A superb piece of craftsmanship and a must for any collector.
