About this item
A first period Worcester large lobed square dessert dish very rarely painted with the Chantilly sprig pattern which is usually only ever found on tea wares. An unusual painted mark to the base which doesn't resemble the pseudo Chantilly horn mark usually used; it may be a distinct mark to denote this dish may have been part of a specially commissioned dessert service (and I have seen the exact same mark on a deep dessert plate also painted with this direct copy of the Chantilly pattern). c.1780, private collection sticker to the reverse.
It measures 24cm (9 1/2") wide (edge to edge) and 4 (1 1/2") high.
In very good condition, just a couple of small foot rim chips. No restoration and very minor handling wear. There has been some smudging of the design to the sprigs around the walls and the rim as can be seen.
