About this item
A nice Georgian silver cream jug with reeded handle and engraved bright-cut decorative bands around the body and tracing the rim with laurel wreath cartouche monogrammed with an ornate I or J. Hallmarked for London 1818, maker's mark slightly rubbed but is I.B which could be for several silversmiths around at the time with similar marks so I'm afraid I cannot attribute.
It measures 10.5cm (4 1/8") high to the handle, 11.3cm (4 1/2") spout to handle and 6.3cm )2 1/2") wide. It weighs 109g / 3.5ozt and has a sensible capacity of 200ml.
Condition is good overall with no damage or dents. There have been some small and neat repairs to the handle where it joins the body and there is evidence of a further small area of repair just below the upper terminal. They are small and of minimal detraction. Surface wear is very light, the engraved detail is crisp and apart from partial rubbing to the maker's initials, all other marks are clear. The jug presents very nicely and is ready for use.
