    About this item

Lovely First Period Worcester sauce tureen, cover and stand in the painted Rubber Tree Plant pattern, c.1775. The bombe shape tureen with scallop shell winged handles and shaped, domed cover with cut out for serving ladle and mounted with a large flower bud finial with moulded stalk and leaves also picked out in underglaze blue.

The stand and tureen base marked with the pseudo Chinese marks characteristic of this pattern. Referenced in Worcester Blue & White Porcelain 1751-1790, Branyan, French & Sandon, section I.E.47, classed as "uncommon".

    The stand measures 23.5cm (9 1/4") long, 17.3cm (6 3/4") wide and 4.8cm (1 7/8") high. the tureen measure 16.5cm (6 1/2") long, 10.8cm (4 1/4") wide and 12cm (4 3/4") high.

Condition is very good with a few minor points to note: the stand has had a short hairline at the rim stabilised and an associated professional small infill to a small chip at the rim edge, and a filled chip to the foot rim. The tureen base has no issues bar a couple of really tiny frits to the tips of the handles. The lid has had a hairline stabilised running just part way either side of the knop (not reaching either edge). No other damage or restoration and surface wear is very light.
