    About this item

A good early Victorian silver mustard pot of octaginal shape with stepped detail around the base and squared "7" shape handle with scrolled lower terminal, outer spur and upcurved thumb rest. Octagonal opening thumb catch and octagonal cartouche overlaid to the cover. Hand engraved symbolic devices to each panel and around the edge of the cover and the central cartouche engraved with a fletcher holding an arrow. Fitted with the likely original blue glass liner. Hallmarked for London 1839, maker William Forrester, partial marks inside the cover.

It measures 6.3cm (2 1/2") high to the thumb catch, 10.2cm (4") rim to handle and 7cm (2 3/4") wide. It weighs 266g in total with the liner, 142g / 4.6ozt silver weight.

In excellent condition with no damage or repair and the liner is good. Some minor handling wear mainly to the cover; the family crest of the fletcher is much more lightly engraved than the other decoration and would not have ever been as clear or crisp but it is a bit rubbed but still obvious what it represents. The hallmarks are pretty good apart from the latter edge of the makers mark. A score across the top of the handle.
