    About this item

A lovely very fine quality Victorian silver pocket / travelling double photograph frame, hinged and with locking clasp and hanging loop to attach to a chain. Opening to reveal two stunning panels of red guilloche enamel with geometric diamond design and inset with oval silver frames to hold the pair of photographs.

Hallmarked for Chester 1894, makers Brockwell & Son (Henry Titterton Brockwell). The edge of the locket is also marked with the retailer mark "A. Barrett & Sons 63-64 Piccadilly. W". Partial marks also to the silver frames holding the enamel panels in place and the loop.

It measures 8.5cm (3 3/8") wide when fully opened and 5.1cm (2") high, excluding the hanging loop and clasp. It measures 4.5cm (1 3/4") by 1cm (3/8") closed. The apertures measure 2.8cm (1 1/8") top to bottom and 2.1cm (12/16") wide. It weighs a very substantial 70g / 2.3 troy ounces.

In excellent condition: a couple of very minor dings to the outside only and slight rubbing of the lower part of the hallmarks. The inside is in super condition with the enamel perfect and the silver frames, inner oval and outer rectangular fitting firmly. The hinge is smooth and firm and the clasp is secure. The aperture coverings please note are understandably plastic not glass.
