About this item
Very nice large silver jug with gilt interior, of circular, round bellied form with wide flared lip and set on an ornate cast frame to form 4 scrolled feet with acanthus leaf and arabesque detail. Double scrolled handle also formed from overlapping acanthus leaves. A very good size, could be used easily for sauce or gravy as well as for milk / cream.
Hallmarked for Birmingham 1849, makers Elkington & Co.
It measures 11.7cm (4 5/8") high, 14.2cm (5 5/8") rim to handle and 10.2cm (4") wide. It weighs 253g / 8.1ozt. It has a sensible capacity of just over 1/2 a pint (340ml).
Condition is very good with no damage, dents or repairs and surface wear is very light, the gilding and hallmarks are in fine order.
