About this item
Magnificent large Edwardian silver bread or fruit basket with swing handle. The navette shape bowl has four layers of pierced rectangles with pointed inverse ends separated by circles, and with matching detail to the stepped and curved foot. Fine moulded decoration traces around the rim of flower roundels, plain ribbed swirls and arabesques and chains of leaf garlands. The handle has leaf shape piercings either side rising to a blank cartouche and on each side is a figurehead of a beautiful lady with feathers in her hair and a necklace and ruff around her neck.
Hallmarked for London 1907, maker George Fox.
It measures 14 3/4" (38cm) long, 10 1/4" (26cm) wide and 10 1/4" (26cm) high with handle. It weighs 1128g/36.3ozt.
Condition is excellent with no damage, dents or repairs and light surface wear, very good for age and use. The hallmarks are clear to the handle. On the base, the edge of the makers initials is a little rubbed but legible and the other marks are all clear.
