About this item
Unusual large silver gilt sugar caster in a lovely deco shape, reminiscent of a lighthouse with octagonal tapering lower part rising to a bulbous upper part and domed lid with stepped edge and attractive concave and stepped knop. The upper part and lid are finely engraved with attractive piercings. It has a rather sweet golden wedding anniversary dedication engraved on one side.
Hallmarked for Sheffield 1939, makers Mappin & Webb to both lid and base and with Mappin & Webb retailer marks also to the base.
It measures 17.8cm (7") high and 7.6cm (3") wide across the base and weighs 289g/9.3ozt.
Condition is very good with no damage or dents, no wear to the gilding and a few light surface marks only.
