About this item
Pretty and stylish silver vinaigrette in the novelty form of a leather bound bound book. Cast detail to form the ribbed spine and fine engraved detail to define the page leaves and striped texturd front and back covers of the book with a vacant cartouche also to the lid. Inside is a pierced silver grill with floral decoration of a lily flowers with scrolling foliage, picked out with engraved detail.
Hallmarked for Birmingham 1847, maker Edward Smith.
It measures 3.5cm (1 7/8") long, 2.5cm (1") wide and 0.7cm (1/4") deep and weighs 17g / 0.5ozt.
Condition is very good with light surface wear and no rubbing to the engraving, raised detail or hallmarks. The hinge has been re-pinned and there is a tiny loss associated with this at the bottom of the hinge case but the work to the hinge is fine and the lid closes well. A minor point to a lovely little case.
