About this item
A pretty pair of George III silver scissor type candle snuffers, a dual action action tool to snuff out the candle and to trim the candle wick. Pierced handles and stood on three knopped feet. Engraved decoration to the snuffer box with an unengraved cartouche marked out on the side and further engraved detail to the hinge disc and handles. Hallmarked for London 1770, maker John Buckett.
They measure 16cm (6 1/4") long, 5.7cm (2 1/4") wide and 4cm (1 1/2") high. They weigh 87g / 2.8ozt.
Condition is very good. They stand well, no repairs and the hinge mechanism works well. The tip is slightly misshapen and shows a few stress lines. Some light handling wear to the engraved decoration. The hallmarks are protected inside the snuffer box and so are fine and clear.
