About this item
A good sized late Edwardian pierced silver sugar basket with swing handle and fitted with a blue glass liner. An openwork design formed by scrolling leaves and vines with touches of bright cut engraving housing 4 shaped reserves, 2 opposing each other holding a lattice pierced panel. One other features a vacant cartouche in a shield shape, and the opposite reserve framing a pierced floral design. The base formed by heavy gauge silver wire in scrolls and arabesques, forming 4 shaped legs. The rim has a gadrooned style decoration and the handle holds a central pierced floral panel held in a heavy wirework frame.
Hallmarked for Birmingham 1910, Maker E. S. Barnsley & Co (Edward Souter Barnsley).
It measures 12.8cm (5") high including the handle, 6.6cm (2 5/8") high to the rim, and 11.2cm (4 3/8") wide. The overall weight is 369g. Silver weight is 113g / 3.6ozt.
Condition is very good with no damage or repair and very light handling wear, the hallmarks and engraved detail are nice and clear.
