This beautifully engraved sterling silver salver by John Samuel Hunt measures 217 mm (8.5 inches) in diameter and stands 27 mm (1 and 1/8th inches) high, resting on three cast feet. It weighs 390 gms (12 troy ounces). The condition is very good with light wear consistent with use and age. It carries London hallmarks for 1864, Hunt's mark as well as "Hunt & Roskell late Storr & Mortimer". There is also an engraved armorial to the centre. John Samuel Hunt was a nephew of, apprenticed to and successor of Paul Storr, considered one of the finest silversmiths of the nineteenth century.
