About this item
This is a nice Stuart-period silver thimble. A short two-piece thimble, the surface is covered in small annulets and decorated with a rope-type band around the base, above is a band of floral motifs, and to the front is a cartouche supported by a love bird on either side. This example is a detector find and in excavated condition, a little squashed and with a split to the seam but intact. Ref: Read, B. 2018: Metal Sewing Thimbles Found in Britain, Figure 28.
