About this item
Very pretty and unusual cut glass spirit / whisky flask by James Dixon & Sons, c.1890. Oval shape, very deep, with 6 double rows of triangular facet cut bands all around the edges. Both sides are beautifully decorated with acid-etched detailing, one side with a stylised central rose surrounded by symmetrical rose leaves and stems with smaller flowers with feathery foliage rising from the top. The other side has entwined bracken fronds wrapping around an etched monogram. The letters would have been IT or JT but given the way these letters were written, they can now easily read as IJ, ST or SJ also but it is so pretty it shouldn't really matter what your name is!
Mounted with a silver plated cap with cork lining and makers mark for James Dixon & Sons (a further mark is obscured on the other side).
It measures 14.7cm (5 3/4") long, 9.5cm (3 3/4") wide and 3.8cm (1 1/2") deep. It weighs 330g and has a 300ml capacity.
Condition is excellent with no damage or any chips or fritting to the glass. Very light surface wear to the lid and collar with no thinning of the plate.
