    About this item

This is an early medieval Saxon period silver finger ring, dating to the late 6th - 7th century A.D. The ring is formed from a single silver wire, intricately formed into a vortex spiral with the ends wrapped around each other. This ring type was a popular design from the late Roman into the Pagan Saxon period. The 'Vortex Spiral' symbol was thought to represent healing or regenerative properties. This ring is intact and in good, wearable condition with no cracks or restoration. Similar examples have been recorded from Northamptonshire NARC-3AE845, Wiltshire WILT-9D4288, and Winchester BERK-5439A9.
