About this item
This is a nice late medieval silver-gilt finger ring, dating to the 15th - 16th century A.D. The bezel is shaped as a simplified rosette, with the shoulders and shank decorated with crosses and grooves. It was originally found by a metal detectorist near Melksham (Wiltshire) recorded as 'WILT-CFDBC2', later disclaimed as treasure and returned to the finder (whom I purchased it from). Such a ring may have been worn as a wedding band, the size suggests this to have been by a man. The rosette is interesting and has a similar shape to belt mounts, a simple decorative design. A good example in excellent excavated condition, ideal to be worn again today.
