    About this item

This low oval, almost canoe shaped blue and white bowl is decorated with a chinese style transfer print under a pearlware glaze and measures 277 mm (10.75 inches) in length, 207 mm (8.25 inches) in width and stands 68 mm (2.75 inches) high. It is unmarked but the pattern corresponds to illustrations in Bevis Hillier's "The Turners of Lane End" 1965, as well as Geoffrey Godden's "Godden's Guide to Blue and White Porcelain" 2004 and "Godden's Guide to Ironstone Stone and Granite wares" 1999. It has been noted that this pattern was used by the partnership of William and John Turner (1792-1803) and later by William Turner who was in business from 1803-1829. It is also possible that this piece was made by Miles Mason (among others), in around 1810-15, using the Turner copper plates that were sold after Turner's bankruptcy in 1806. It has a few very faint scratches to glaze in the centre and some very, very minor glaze faults ex factory, otherwise it is in excellent condition.
