About this item
A steel ice, or sugar cleaver in the shape of a horse. Decorative cleavers, of this type, were used in the confectioner’s kitchens for chopping the cones of sugar or the huge blocks of ice. This one is well shaped, as a heavy horse, and the steel is hand forged. The handle is made from wood, is very simple in from, and is attached by small, copper rivets. It dates from c.1890 and it is in excellent condition.
