About this item
An interesting, 19th century, American cast iron, iron and stand. The iron has a very thick base and a detachable handle. You would have had a couple of bases which were kept on the stove and changed as they cooled down so the iron would always be very hot. It is marked, in the casting “COLEBROOKDALE IRON Co. POTTSTOWN. PA. USA” This company opened a foundry in 1720. The stand also has the company name in the casting around a crown and it is very decorative.
There are a couple of small burn marks to the wooden handle but otherwise both the iron and stand are in excellent condition.
They date from c.1880.
