    About this item

A small, cast iron box iron with a turned wooden handle. This is marked  “J. BATES” , beneath a crown, on the slider. This is the mark of Joseph Bates of Wolverhampton. The foundry was originally established around 1820, and by the 1880’s they had two factories. This piece dates from c.1870 and is complete with its’ original heating brick which was put into the fire to heat the iron. The handle, which is turned from a dark wood, has a significant crack on the underside but it is stable. The iron is in very good condition.

    Dimensions: Length 9cm. Width 6cm. Height 11cm.

Price includes postage within the U.K. Shipping to the U.S.A. add £20. Most of Western Europe add £10.
