About this item
A Rare Large British Army Leather Cordite Carrier. Made from canvas lined cork and covered with leather, the handles are attached by copper rivets to reduce the risk of an explosion being caused by a spark. Formed in 1883 the regiment served in the North-West campaign of 1885, the Second Boer War, First World War and the Second World War. C1910
Also known as an elephant ear Cordite due to the two carry handles. These were made to carry cordite, and were flash proof containers for bag charges (cartridges) the charges were placed into these containers before they left the magazines.
This cordite is in lovely condition and would make an exquisite addition to any home, perhaps used as an umbrella or stick stand.
