French Verdure Tapestry, Circa 1720
This decorative tapestry has several appealing features. The Arcadian scene is filled with several birds including a turkey in the foreground alongside Roman ruins, palms trees and flora all of which is drawn in an harmonious composition. The colours are light and pleasant with lots of yellows, golds and pale greens. Note the landscape format and lovely size. This piece has survived the centuries in a healthy condition. It is in its original format with no cuts or reductions. The borders are complete. Inevitably there are some old scattered repairs, but these have been sympathetically executed. Recently cleaned in our own workshop, this piece is ready to go with a lining and velcro to the rear to assist hanging.
