This is a vintage wall tapestry. An English, needlepoint scene depicting The Lady and the Unicorn, dating to the late 20th century, circa 1980.
This striking tapestry is a quality recreation of the 15th century renaissance series of tapestries known as Dame a la L'icorne (The Lady and the Unicorn). A series of six, this fascinating tapestry represents the central element of the whole - La Gout (The Sense of Taste).
Of appealing size for the smaller wall at 78.5cm x 66cm (31" x 26")
Displaying a desirably aged patina and in good order throughout
Enthusiastic woven detail to the quality needlepoint tapestry, with attractive pattern borders
Light scarlet red ground with a palette of blue and golden tones
The titular lady and her courtier sit between a lion and the unicorn
Fruiting trees framed by heraldic flags stand within a bountiful garden
Of the small animals are present, the allegorical monkey is experiencing the sense of taste from his stolen treat
Accepts a mounting rail through the four decorated hanging loops
