    About this item

A large and elegant, reclaimed, antique tiled cast iron fire, dating to the late Victorian period, C.1890. The fire is very heavy and solid and of a good size for a living or dining room. The fire has a beautiful design, typical of the era, with a large Adam style urn with acanthus leaves on the cross bar and urns at the top of each leg. The legs have reeded detailing and it has a pretty smoke hood with bows, swags and a medallion. On each side of the fire opening are very attractive blue period tiles that compliment the fire. The fire retains the original front bars and there is a fixing lug on each side, under the mantel. The fire has been paired with a cast iron fire stool and new clay fire back. The cast iron has been blacked and polished and has a lovely finish. The back of the fire has a registered design number that has worn and now cannot be read. The fire is in good condition with some signs of age and use, as expected of reclaimed antiques. The iron has some small marks, scratches, pitting and casting marks. The mantel has some small holes. The tiles have some crazing to the glaze and some small scratches, knocks and marks. There is some residue black paint or filler at the base of the tiles on the left hand side. The back of the fire has surface rust. Please see pictures for details. The fire is a fine example of Victorian design, perfect for a period home, and it would make a fantastic show piece within the home.
