About this item
A beautiful example of a rare advertising figure for w.d.& h.o wills smoking fine shag. in the 1930s wills produced a set of 3 chalk advertising counter top figures to advertise their smoking products. One was the slightly more common pirate shag, The other rarer 2 of the set being the farmer and the blackbird shag. this example is known as the farmer hence his smock and attire. The farmer dates to 1934 from the imperial tobacco company number pressed into the back ITC 9161. The detail is superb in the face, would have originally had a shag packet stood next to him. A superb rare figure.
condition
The figure itself is in lovely condition with no structural damage, the paint work is mostly original apart from his collar which has been overpainted. but one of the best original examples I have seen. with his original pipe which is usually broken. A superb addition to any collection
any questions please feel free to contact me
