    About this item

A fine matched set of late 18thc standard spindle back chairs....the set consists of two carvers and six side chairs....all the chairs have rush seating, which is in good condition and are made out of turned alder and ash....the front legs are quarter round and terminate in attractive pad feet and the back legs are square....the backs have round uprights with upper and lower galleries of five turned spindles and on the carvers the upper and lower galleries have a further middle row of seven shorter spindles....the stay rail is nicely shaped and typical of this region.....I particularly like the front stretchers which have an attractive eliptically turned shape on all the chairs..... the chairs are in excellent condition and would certainly look at home in any country home setting...

    English. Lancashire / Cheshire. C1780-C1800.
