About this item
A very fine carved Arts & Crafts oak church collection or offertory bag, dating to the late 19th century. The outer rim of the wooden frame is carved with the words 'It is more blessed to give than to receive'. The words are divided into four with a Christian symbol at each division - the Cross, the Crown of Thorns, Alpha & Omega, and the Chi Rho christogram. In the centre is the JHS christogram. The carving has been beautifully done. The original purple velvet collection bag with maroon cotton lining is still attached.
There is minor wear and soiling to the cloth bag.
