About this item
This Mauchline Ware napkin ring is decorated with a print entitled "The Hermitage on the Braan, Dunkeld", and on the reverse is the first verse of James Hogg's poem "Cam' ye by Atholl", written about the 1745 Jacobite uprising. Above the poem is printed "From the Athole Plantations Dunkeld" and below is the name of the retailer, Anderson Bookseller Dunkeld. Marked items like this could have been given to valued customers or used as a type of advertising. The diameter is 52 mm (2 inches) and the piece stands 25 mm (1 inch) high. It is in very good condition and would date from the late 1800's.
