Antique Afghan 19th Century Soumak Door Hanging. This is of considerable age . Soumak is not a Kilim but a different variety in flat-woven textiles. Soumak is embroidered (not weaved) and its threads are rather left uncut/stranded at the back. They employ different styles of tribal motifs, predominantly geometric and bird motifs. Soumaks rugs have high value and are most suitable for contemporary, modern decor.
Fringing is raggy . Listed for UK but could be sent abroad via courier
Condition Issues:- Vegetable dies so faded from extreme age; Fringing is raggy One area in a specific picture where the seam has dropped away. Slight eau de camel but only if sniffed ( It was stored in a sealed box so should have dissipated soon
Purchased in the 1970's for a closed shop whilts on a silk road trip. They are all from the collection of a 50yr+ bead/tribal specialist in Covent garden
