About this item
This lidded vegetable tureen by is by Turner & Co of Lane End in Staffordshire, who were in business from around 1762 until 1806. It is decorated with a printed blue and white willow pattern later known as "Turner's Willow". Following Turner's bankruptcy, this pattern was used by Miles and William Mason and later by Charles and George Mason and their successors. It was also used by Hicks and Meigh. The tureen measures 233 mm (9.25 inches) in width, is 210 mm (8.25 inches) in depth and stands 110 mm (4.25 inches) high. The base carries the mark "Turner's Patent". This patent (No 2367), for a new kind of stoneware, was taken out in January 1800. It is in very good condition and would date from the period 1800-6.
