An exceptionally rare superb quality late 18th century mahogany cutlery urn of large proportions with brass line inlaid decoration - ADDITIONAL IMAGES CAN BE VEWED BELOW:
This cutlery urn consists of a turned gilt brass ball finial to the top leading down to a mahogany and brass line inlaid cover of dome form, the cover lifting to reveal a stepped interior for the storage of cutlery or knives.
The main section, of rounded tapered form, also of mahogany and brass line inlaid decoration leading down to a brass diamond shaped escutcheon with brass plaque below with engraved armorial of a griffin holding an axe.
To either side of the urn a brass ring and lion mask handle, the urn being supported by a mahogany and brass line inlaid shaped stem on a square platform base terminating with four brass ball feet.
This cutlery urn is in very good condition for age with evidence of old repairs, is of stable construction and can go straight into a home.
